Who We Are
About Us
Magar Samaj is dedicated to uniting the Magar community living in the United Kingdom and Nepal. The Magar people are one of the largest indigenous ethnic groups in Nepal, renowned for their resilience, honesty, and bravery. Their rich folklore and cultural traditions, including the popular jhyaure and dohori folk songs, are essential components of Nepal’s cultural identity.
Magar Samaj was founded to preserve the unique Magar culture and traditions while fostering unity among Magars across borders. It aims to support Magars living in the UK, as well as their families and communities in Nepal, ensuring the next generation remains connected to their roots while excelling in their chosen fields.
Our Aims & Objectives
At the heart of our organization lies a deep commitment to preserving, promoting, and celebrating the rich heritage of the Magar community in the United Kingdom—particularly in West London, Hounslow, and its surrounding areas. Our key objectives include:
Cultural Celebration: We proudly celebrate Maghe Sankranti—one of the most significant festivals in the Magar calendar—every January, bringing the community together in joy and tradition.
Preservation of Heritage: We are dedicated to safeguarding the Magar culture, language, scriptures, and history for the benefit of future generations growing up in the UK.
Community Engagement:
We hold our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on the first Saturday of July each year, offering members a platform to reflect, discuss, and plan ahead.
We host a lively Summer Get-Together on the third Saturday of July, fostering unity, fun, and fellowship among families and friends.
Family Support: We offer essential support to Magar families living in West London and surrounding areas, ensuring they have the help and resources they need during times of need.
Promoting Unity: Our organization serves as a bridge to build strong bonds among Magars in our region, promoting harmony, solidarity, and a shared sense of belonging.
Activities and Events
Magar Samaj UK-Nepal
Magar Samaj takes pride in organizing various events and programs to preserve Magar culture, foster unity, and support the community. Here’s a closer look at what we do:
Cultural Events
We celebrate traditional Magar festivals such as Maghe Sankranti, a joyous occasion marking the winter solstice and harvest, and Bhume Puja, a sacred ceremony honoring the Earth and seeking blessings for prosperity and well-being. These events serve as a platform to keep our cultural practices alive and pass them on to younger generations .
Community Gatherings
Regular community gatherings, such as picnics, social events, and fundraising programs, provide opportunities for members to connect, share experiences, and support each other. These gatherings are not just about recreation but also about strengthening bonds within the Magar community living in the UK and beyond.
Collaborative Efforts
We actively engage with other Nepali organizations to host joint programs that promote cultural exchange and solidarity among various Nepali communities. These collaborations foster mutual understanding and create a sense of shared purpose, enhancing the overall impact of our initiatives.
